CAPTAIN STEPHEN A. FOLSOM, USN
Captain Stephen “Steve” Folsom a native of Jacksonville, Florida enlisted in the United States
Navy through the Delayed Entry Program in April of 1986. He reported to Navy Recruit
Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, January 7 th , 1987. Upon graduation, Captain Folsom reported
to Naval Air Technical Training Command, Millington, TN for training as an Aviation
Ordnanceman,
Captain Folsom’s sea tours include Fighter Squadron VF-21, Fighter Squadron VF-32, Fighter
Squadron VF-102 as the Ordnance LCPO, Fighter Squadron VF-31 as the Squadron Weapons
Officer, USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as Bomb Assembly Officer, Carrier Air Wing
SEVENTEEN Staff as CAG Weapons Officer, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) as
Ordnance Handling Officer, USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) as the Gun Boss and PCU John
F. Kennedy (CVN 79) as the Gun Boss.
Captain Folsom has deployed thirteen times aboard nine different aircraft carriers supporting
OPERATION’s DESERT SHIELD, SOUTHERN WATCH, ALLIED FORCE, ENDURING
FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, PROVIDE COMFORT and INHERENT
RESOLVE.
Shore assignments include HSL-43, the F-14 Fleet Replacement Squadron, VF-101, where he
served as the Leading Petty Officer of the Ordnance Shop, Afloat Training Group Atlantic as a
Team Leader for the Ordnance Handling Safety Assistance Team (OHSAT), Naval Reserve
Forces as the Force Weapons Officer, Naval Safety Center as the Weapons/Explosive Division
Head and Commanding Officer Naval Airborne Weapons Maintenance Unit ONE. His most
recent tour was at NAVAIRSYSCOM Program Executive Office for Unmanned Aviation and
Strike Weapons (PEO U&W), Patuxent River, MD as the Air-Launched Weapons Sustainment
Lead and FLEET Liaison.
June 26 th , 2025, Captain Folsom assumed command as Commander, Navy Munitions Command
Atlantic the major commander responsible for 20 units, sites and detachments performing
FLEET Operational Support for ordnance from Texas – through Europe and the Middle East.
Captain Folsom was recognized as the John C. Stennis Center Leadership Award Winner in
2012. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps
Commendation Medal (9), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7) and various other
personal, campaign, and unit awards. He completed Naval Prospective Commanding Officer
and Military Justice in January 2017, Prospective Major Command and Senior Military Justice in
June 2025 and earned a degree from Vincennes University. He is married to Liane Cyrene
Folsom and has two daughters: Cydney (25) and Taelyr (23).
